The End is Near

As we near the end of the year, on behalf of MS Admin and the entire MS Staff, we want to take this opportunity to thank our DAA middle school community for another fantastic year. We have been so impressed with the drive, talents, thoughtfulness and eagerness to learn that has been demonstrated by our students. As we pack up and get ready to move to the new campus, we are feeling nostalgic about our current DAA home and excited about all that is made available for us in our new home. For those of you that are moving away, we will miss you and wish you all the best. For those continuing on with us, we look forward to making history together - see you in September!

Final Reporting - TRC/Library:

We kindly ask parents to check in with your Middle Schooler to see if there are any outstanding books due to the library.  In addition, as students return texts to the TRC, we often find that some items are missing.  Our Semester 2 reports will be emailed out on June 22nd as long as all books/texts have been returned to the library and TRC.  Students are encouraged to check carefully to ensure that accounts are clear.

Yearbooks:

We are planning on having a time on Wednesday for students to get their yearbooks signed by friends. If you haven’t yet purchased your yearbook, you can do so at the reception. Yearbooks cost 100 AED.

Grade 8 Completion Ceremony:

We are excited to celebrate all the accomplishments of our middle school ‘seniors’ before they move up to high school and become the ‘freshman’. On Thursday, June 15th at 12:15pm we will hold a ceremony in the auditorium to celebrate the end of this phase in their journey. We will have a time after this ceremony for families and friends to take pictures with one another in the cafeteria. In the evening, starting at 7:00pm until 9:00pm, the grade 8 students will have their very own dance in the cafeteria.

June Week - June 18th to 22nd:

As we did last year, we are planning to host our second annual June week activities. During the week of June 18th to 22nd, we will follow a different schedule and focus on different ways of learning. Our goal is to create alternative learning experiences that provide students with the opportunity to take risks and explore topics that are not a part of our normal curriculum but are essential life skills. On June 18th, students will build their own schedule for the week. Here is the JUNE WEEK information guide for students to look at to help them figure out what works best for them. During this week, we are also planning some student tours of the new campus. In order for students to get on the bus, they will need to bring back a permission slip to leave the campus. They have been provided with a hard copy, but in case it is lost, we are providing a link to print off a new one. Dress for June Week should be regular uniform, color house shirt with jeans or PE shorts or their PE kit. They will need to dress based on the activities they choose to partake in.

MOGA - June 22nd:

We will host our final MOGA activities on Thursday, June 22nd from 8:30am until noon. Students should wear their color house shirt with PE shorts and proper running shoes. Students will not have access to their lockers and should not bring their computer.

Student Council 2017-18

We are normally announcing at this time our new President and Vice President for the middle school. We have decided to wait until we are in the new building and have all of our students who can participate in the vote. We would like to send a huge thank you to Rita Dahi, Ameer Amdani, Emir Yucedag and the grade level representatives who were part of our Student Council this year. We would also like to thank Ms. Moffat and Ms. Cantu for all the work they have done with the students.

Starting 2017-18

We would like to share the beginning of year information and school supply list with all of you so you can start preparing over the summer.

Warmest regards,

Joan Wiens and Luke Spencer
